A 5.5 inch 1080p screen integrated with the Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 offers 1000 cd/m squared of brightness, more than twice as bright as conventional smart devices. It makes bright, vivid colors easily visible in direct sunlight. As the DJI GO 4 app is built into the screen, a mobile device is not required, simplifying pre-flight preparations. Integration of an HDMI port, Micro SD card slot, microphone, embedded loudspeaker, and Wi-Fi connection allow images to be edited inside DJI GO 4 to be shared almost instantly. OcuSync HD, the most sophisticated transmission system from DJI, is standard on the Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0. It sends commands and transmits/receives video transmissions up to 4.3 miles. OcuSync transmits in two frequencies: 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. It automatically and seamlessly switches between the two frequencies to avoid interference. Video transmits in 1080p or 720p high definition, depending on the distance to base. He quadcopter’s camera still records in higher 4K video. The controller employs time-division multiplexing technology to send control signal and receive video signal simultaneously. When the controller is powered on, the OcuSync system scans for the frequency band with the lowest interference and switches accordingly to maintain clear transmission. The 5.5-inch 1080p monitor, which attaches directly to the remote controller, has the DJI Go 4 app built right in. It’s more than twice as bright as conventional devices you would otherwise have to attach to the controller to view onscreen commands and imagery transmitted by the drone. The controller has a 5-hour battery life for a day of serious flying and recording.
With OccuSync, you also can connect DJI Goggles wirelessly to the Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0, allowing you to take advantage of the full range of DJI Goggles capabilities. With the optional goggles, you can visually immerse yourself in the Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 flight. You also can issue commands with head movements. You can buy DJI goggles separately.
Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 has two new features that make it considerably quieter than earlier P4s. The first is quieter propellers. The Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 comes with four pairs of the new propellers. Additional spares are available. The other new parts contributing to quieter operation are new motors. New aerodynamic 9455S propellers and new FOC ESC drivers offer improved noise control and sinusoidal current for better stability. The combination results in 4dB lower noise generated when flying—a reduction of 60 percent.
The Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 comes Ready To Fly. That means only minor, non-soldered assembly is required. Everything you need is in the box, except for your smartphone or tablet, either of which you will connect by USB cable to the remote controller.
The onboard camera has been redesigned to use a 1-inch 20-megapixel CMOS sensor. A custom engineered lens made up of eight elements is arranged in seven groups. It is the first DJI camera to use a mechanical shutter, eliminating rolling shutter distortion which can occur when taking images of fast moving subjects or when flying at high speed. In effect, it is as powerful as many traditional ground cameras. More powerful video processing supports H.264 4K videos at 60fps or H.265 4K at 30fps, both with a 100Mbps bitrate. Advanced sensors and processors ensure everything is captured with more image detail and the image data needed for advanced post-production.
The capabilities of the camera make a very clear “Pro” statement. The 1-inch CMOS sensor more than doubles the pixels in non-Pro Phantom 4 cameras. It provides more definition in both video and stills.
Sensor size is more important to image quality than the number of pixels because a larger sensor captures more information in every pixel, improving dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio, and low light performance. The 1-inch 20-megapixel CMOS sensor in the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is almost four times the size of the Phantom 4's 1/2.3in sensor. It uses larger pixels and has a maximum ISO of 12800 as well as increased contrast. It is good enough for images to be used immediately, while also capturing enough detail for advanced post-processing.
True 4K video: You’d have a tough time discerning 4K video shot by a Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 from 4K video shot by cameras on higher-priced quadcopters. A motorized 3-axis gimbal keeps the video shake-free. The 60fps speed makes P4P+ V2.0 video an ideal candidate for conversion to slow motion. The output is increased to 100Mbs from 60Mbs on most earlier Phantom 4 models. This is true professional-level video that’s suitable for shooting TV news, commercials, features, advanced web pages, weddings and indoor/outdoor events.
20MP stills: The bigger sensor takes stills to an outstanding 20MP on the Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0, up from 12MP on earlier P4s. And the maximum burst rate doubles to 14fps from 7fps on earlier P4s. Those are huge improvements for professional photographers.
Adjustable aperture: Remember when you had to attach a filter on bright days to reduce the light entering through the Phantom 4’s fixed f2.8 aperture? On the Phantom 4 Pro, you can adjust the aperture through a dynamic range of f2.8 to down to f11, directly from your remote controller. That’s helpful for taming bright sunlight and for increasing depth of field. Optional filters, of course, are still accommodated.
An enhanced video processing system allows video to be captured in cinema and production optimized DCI 4K/60 (4096 x 2160 / 60fps) at a bitrate of 100Mbps, enabling you to get high-resolution slow motion shots. The Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 also supports the H.265 video codec (Maximum resolution 4096 x 2160 / 30fps). For a given bitrate, H.265 doubles the amount of image processing as H.264, resulting in significantly enhanced image quality. Record in the high dynamic range D-log mode to make the most of this image data for color grading.
Distortion-free shutter: The mechanical shutter on the Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 prevents rolling distortion. If you have shot really fast action from an earlier Phantom 4, you might have encountered distortion. A photo of a race car, for instance, would produce oblong tires because the camera couldn’t freeze action that fast. Now the rotating tires look like tires, not like a distant galaxy spinning in space.
Shutter speeds: The mechanical shutter has manually adjustable speeds from 8 seconds for time exposures to 1/2000 second for freezing action. The electronic shutter adjusts from 8 seconds to 1/8000 second.
The resolution and contrast of a lens is critical to image quality, because only a quality lens can capture sharp, vivid photos at high resolutions. The brand new Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 camera has an aerial optimized F2.8 wide-angle lens with a 24mm equivalent focal length. It features eight elements - 2 aspherical - arranged in seven groups that fit into a smaller, more compact frame. Its images are consistently detailed with low distortion and low dispersion, ensuring that photos and videos are sharp and vivid. For the first time ever with a DJI camera, MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) results have been made public, so people can gain a better understanding of the lens performance.
Aerial imaging is not only used to capture landscapes; it brings new perspectives to everything from action scenes to motor racing. Capturing objects moving at high speed has always been a challenge for flying cameras using an electronic shutter. This is why the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is the first DJI Phantom to use a mechanical shutter and a large-aperture prime lens. A mechanical shutter with a maximum speed of 1/2000s eliminates rolling shutter distortion which can occur when taking images of fast moving subjects or when flying at high speed. The electronic shutter has also been improved with a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000s seconds, and a new Burst Mode shoot made capable of shooting 14 fps at 20 megapixels to catch the perfect moment.
You need a flight program that does more than tell your drone how fast and in which direction to go. How about a program that provides total camera control, with onscreen adjustments for aperture, ISO, shutter and shooting formats? That’s DJI Go 4. Maybe you want changes in flight data to show up immediately in front of you. Or you want to easily check video transmission data. Maybe you want to be reminded of what flight mode you’re in. It’s all there with DJI Go 4, along with a variety of helpful flight modes.
TapFly: Just tap on the screen to point your drone in that direction. It will automatically avoid obstacles, unless you’re in TapFly Free. In Tap Fly Free, the drone goes in the direction you tell it but you can separately control the camera and gimbal. That leaves your hands free to concentrate on aerial video or photography, not on flying the aircraft. With TapFly Forward, the Pro+ V2.0 will go forward to where your tap points it, with the camera and gimbal straight ahead. In TapFly Backward, the drone flies backwards in the direction opposite of where you tapped on the screen, with the camera and gimbal again aimed to the front of the aircraft.
Draw: Here’s another program that lets you concentrate on controlling the camera on your Phantom 4 Pro. Use your finger to draw your route onscreen, and the aircraft will follow it. Draw Standard allows the drone to follow the indicated path with the camera facing the direction of flight. Draw Manual really helps with creative video and photography by telling the drone to follow the path only when you command it to move, while you aim the camera wherever you want.
Return to Home: This program is your security blanket when you signal the Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 drone to return to base. It also automatically boots when the signal is lost. The aircraft follows the safe path it just took, or if that path is unavailable, it finds its way using GPS and obstacle avoidance.
A lone pilot who also has to operate the camera will appreciate ActiveTrack. The program makes it much easier for a solo operator to take quality video and photos by locking onto and tracking the subject. The aircraft adjusts to the subject’s speed, whether he slows or speeds up. Available are three modes:
Trace: Follow in front of or behind the subject, using obstacle avoidance.
Profile: Follow alongside the subject, presenting different angles.
Spotlight: Recognize and keep the subject in the frame while you fly in any direction, looking for the unusually expressive shot. This works best with a still or slow-moving subject.
FlightAutonomy is expanded with an additional set of high-resolution stereo vision sensors placed at the rear in addition to the pair placed at the front as well as infrared sensing systems placed on the left and right sides. This network creates a total of 5-direction of obstacle sensing and 4-direction of obstacle avoidance, protecting the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 drone from more obstacles and giving filmmakers the confidence to capture more complex images.
The Phantom 4 Pro+ is safer to fly than earlier Phantom 4 drones because it has more sensors to detect obstacles. Older Phantom 4 aircraft had sensors up front. The Pro+ V2.0 has sensors on the front, both sides, the bottom and the back. It will sense obstacles in all those directions. It will avoid obstacles in the front, sides and back. P4P+ can sense obstacles as close as 7 inches and as far away as 23 feet at up to 31 mph—really useful if you’re flying near trees or indoors. The security from five-directional sensing generates confidence to get in, get a difficult shot, and get out safely.
Three sets of dual vision sensors from a 6-camera navigation system that works constantly to calculate the relative speed and distance between the aircraft and an object. Using this network of forward, rearward, and downward vision sensors, the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 drone is able to hover precisely in places without GPS when taking off indoors, or on balconies, or even when flying through windows with minimal pilot control. In the unlikely event that front and downward sensors are unable to operate, the aircraft can still hover in place using the rear stereo vision system. The Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 drone is also able to fly in complex environments at a flight speed of up to 31mph (50kph) while avoiding obstacles in its path. In Narrow Sensing Mode, the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 narrow its sensing scope enabling it to see in more detail and fly through small spaces.dir="ltr">
Professionals can’t afford to scratch a mission because a drone’s positioning hardware fails. That’s why the Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 has redundant compasses and IMUs. If one of either fails, the redundant sensor takes over, and the flight continues. Reliance on the backup sensor is seamless. Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 also relies on two satellite systems: GPS and GLONASS, the Russian system. If GPS becomes unavailable, the other system can be used.
FlightAutonomy is an advanced aerial intelligence and flight automation platform. It is made up of a complex network of ten component groups including seven cameras - forward, rearward, and downward dual vision sensors and the primary camera - an infrared sensing system, dual-band satellite positions (GPS and GLONASS), two downward facing ultrasonic rangefinders, redundant IMUs and compasses and a group of powerful, specialized computing cores. The Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 drone acquires a real-time view of its environment and information about the height and position of nearby obstacles to create a 3D map it can locate itself within. The IMU and compasses collect crucial flight status, speed and direction data, while redundant IMUs and compasses monitor critical data and rule out possible errors, drastically enhancing the reliability of flight.
The Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 drone is the first DJI aircraft to use an infrared sensing system. Placed on the left and right sides of the quadcopter, these measure the distance between the drone and any obstacles using infrared 3D scanning. When in Beginner Mode and Tripod Mode, these sensors have a horizontal field of view of 70 degrees and vertical field of view of 20 degrees, providing a wide view of the scene to the sides of the Phantom, and a maximum range of 23 ft (7m). Traditional ultrasonic sensors only have a detection range of 3-5 meters and may be confused when affected by propeller vibration. The infrared sensing system is able to sense larger areas and measure the distance between the quadcopter, identifying the closest objects accurately while avoiding interference, providing more reliable sensing and protection.
The Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 remote controller operates at up to 4.3 miles. Video is transmitted by OcuSync in 1080p, or 720p at farther distances. Two frequencies are available for transmissions: 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz. The Pro+ V2.0 will switch between frequencies automatically if it senses interference from cell towers, WiFi or some other source. FPVLR range extenders are available.
Professional aerial imaging benefits from longer flight times. The Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 drone has a maximum flight time of 30 minutes, providing more time in the air to capture the perfect shot. The DJI GO 4 app shows battery lifetime and calculates remaining flight times according to distance traveled and more. It will give alerts when it reaches a minimum safe amount required for a safe journey back to the takeoff point. An advanced battery management system is also in place to prevent overcharging and over draining. When placed in longer term storage, batteries will discharge power to maintain good health.
The DJI Intelligent Flight Battery is the smartest drone battery on the market, and that makes it highly reliable. It’s smart enough to prevent overcharging or over draining. It even protects against damage during storage by slowly discharging power. An Intelligent Flight Battery tells you, through the DJI Go 4 flight program, how much power it has in reserve. Reserve running low? Return to Home mode will get your Phantom 4 Pro+ safely back to base before power is gone. But don’t worry: Each battery gives the Phantom 4 Pro+ up to 30 minutes of flight time.
When you return to base for a fresh battery, the Phantom 4 Pro+ remembers its takeoff spot and lands there, making landings easier. It then returns to the precise spot where you had been recording, because it remembers that, too. Since you flew there safely, P4P+ V2.0 remembers the flight path. When Return to Home is activated, whether by you or automatically by the flight program when a signal is lost, the aircraft uses the safe path to get back to base.
